Chronic Liver Diseases

Chronic liver disease (CLD) is a major concern for the U.S. with the rates of morbidity and mortality on the rise since 2005. CLD includes multiple pathologies such as inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and cancer, and can be induced by multiple liver disorders including hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cholangiopathies (i.e. diseases that target the biliary epithelial cells), and others. One of the main treatments for CLD is liver transplantation, but the number livers available for transplant is decreasing as the number of people awaiting a transplant is increasing. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to identify new therapeutic targets for the treatment of CLD.
